Lets talk about working in a kids salon again!
I feel that I can sympathize with moms out there and the kids movies that get played OVER and OVER and OVER again - because 'in my line of work' ;o) I see all the popular movies out there, OVER and OVER and OVER again!!!
Lately I have been waking up in the mornings singing them! Scary I tell ya! Why? you ask.... well, listen to what I have to deal with every day!!
"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! CAN HE COME HOME, CAN HE - CAN HE COME HOME, CAN HE - CAN HE COOOOMME!?!?!??"
Geez Sesame Street! Do you have any sympathy for the moms out there that have to listen to these songs?!
Ha, I have to admit that it is really cute watching those squirts sing (yell) at the top of their lil' lungs.
But none will compare to the Barbie songs.

Pinocchio Parenting
When work consumes 1/2 of you week, there are things to talk about once in a while.
Today is one of those days...
Parent and Grandparents can be so weird sometimes - as in they practice
Pinocchio Parenting
Grandma was just in with her lil' grandson. He was playing on the slide that we have in here, and like every other kid, he wanted to climb up the slide instead of go down the slide. Grandma (and most parents) didn't like it.
"Matthew! you go DOWN the slide! not UP the slide!"
"Turn around, come down the slide!"
"The sign says, 'Go DOWN the slide'! "
(umm excuse me Pinocchio Grandma, but there is no sign in the store that says that!)
And then the kicker: "Matthew, if you don't go down the slide the lady (me) is going to kick you out!"
....And I am thinking, "No I Won't ! Don't you go making me the bad guy!."
You would be surprised at how often parents say things like this to their kids... and about me no less.
"The lady is going to get mad at you..."
"The lady said no..."
The lady DID NO SUCH THING!
Sheesh....
Pinocchio! Tell your kids no, don't lie! ... can I get an Amen?
At least for my sake, kids are gonna start crying when they see me..... you know, because I will kick them out, yell at them, and I say NO! ....according to their parents

ZZzzZZzzZZzzZZzz
I am posting today because it is the only thing I can do today at work to keep me awake! I got great sleep last night and an exact 8 hours - but boy oh boy, when 2 o'clock rolled around today - smack - I was hit with sleepy-ness!
I actually slightly fell asleep in a chair.
Suddenly... crreeeeeeek... I was startled by the opening of the front door of the store...
CUSTOMER! AWW YIKES
Where am I?
How long was I out?
Do I look like I was sleeping?
Slobber?
How's my hair?
And I then proceeded to pretend like I was the most awake person in all of Naperville. I was probably a little over enthusiastic for that customer.... and that customer probably saw me scrambling around out of my slumbering seat!
oh well, they are gone now and according to our appointment book I have 45 minutes until the next person is expected to arrive!
Sweet dreams

Life in a Kids' Salon
There is no telling what you will experience in a kids salon - you wanna know why?? Because kids are totally unpredictable! I can always count on one good laugh or two at work, here is the lastest comedic relief:
So, I am working on the computer while a co worker is trimming away on a little boy's hair, when I began to catch on to some very inconspicuous actions going on in the front of the store. There, stood the little boy's sister, a little girl with 'piggies' (that's pigtails in kid lingo), bending over at her middle, grabbing her tushie.... what was she doing - you got it, she was taking a poo! I mean seriously, what do you do at this point. I'm simply a receptionist, but I know a "pooping in your pants child" when I see one in action! I stayed quit, but I considered saying, "uuh, mom, i think your little princess is pooing her pants in the corner..."
Probably not my place, but boy oh boy it was funny watching her walk around real awkward, (ya know- like maybe something uncomfortable was in her pants ;o) and avoiding being near her momma and brother.
Mom: "Sophia, come here, come she your brothers hair cut!"
[sophia shakes her head no]
Mom: "Sophia, come here"
[Sophia waddles slowly, half way to mom, shakes her head no]
Mom: "Sophia, what are you doing? Come here"
[Sophia waddles slowly, a little closer, and whispers]
Sophia: "Sophie poopie"
Mom: "[sigh] I'll get a diaper"

Bad Kid!!
The curious encounters with kids are countless at Cookie Cutters - my proud place of employment :) Some better than others, and most days I leave work thinking... I've got this whole parenting thing figured out!
(that's supposed to be a joke!)
Cookie Cutters is designed to be every kids dream of what a haircut should be. We're talking planes, cars and train for seats, bright colors, indoor slide and play-place, suckers, balloons and gum balls! Of course all of these amenities come with the service, and are free - except for the gum balls which are 25cents. That is a MAJOR bummer for some kids, really, I have seen tears.
Well, once upon a time, we were stocked with bags and bags of gum balls to fill up the machines with - and just so happen to keep a few of the bags behind the counter. On this particular day we had lots and lots of kids running around the store: laughing, playing, licking their lolly pops - until suddenly TEARS! Momma didn't give 'em a quater!! I believe the world stopped spinning for a moment.
I actually kinda felt sad for the kid... I mean, I love gum balls too so I totally understand -
until...
suddenly, (me standing behind the register) I turn around to a rummaging noise behind me.
That bugger was stealing our gum balls!
You know what really shocked me, was that this lil' girl was so sneaky! I mean, she reached so far and as soon as I turned around she was stuffing it in her pocket. So sly. She kept taking quick peeks over her shoulder to see if she had gotten away with it too. I was in utter shock. We are talking - 7 years old!

Blanca's work of Art
So last week I got my hair cut. Blanca, this wonderful lady that I work with at Cookie Cutters, cut it for me. It was just a trim, nothing major and we were really slow at work, so since we had time - she got to snipping.
What was so fun about this particular haircut is the fact that it was done in a kids salon! So I started out laying on the Fire Truck bed to get my hair washed :o) Now in case you don't know, I work with the owner on her kid's hair product line ranging from shampoos to detanglers to body wash. It's super cute, called Zoo On Yoo. So, during my hair festivities, I got to personally experience these kids products that I work with... I mean, just about every product!
First we started of washing my hair (on the fire truck bed) with some yummy Shaggy Sheep Blueberry Shampoo and then followed with the ever popular Tame Your Mane Lion Mango Conditioner. Then, toweled off my hair so that Blanca could get started. Luckily we have a few normal chair at Cookie Cutters, otherwise I would have been sitting in the old fashion pink car for my trim!
Next, I got a fresh squirt of the delicious Dizzy Duck Banana Hair Detangler to make it easy for my friend to comb through my long flowing golden locks (embellishment added)
The haircut went smoothly and it felt great to have nice clean ends. Once I was done, I could help myself but to style my new do'! So I grabbed the Mellow Moose Watermelon Styling Mousse and gave my new waves a boost, it smelled so good - and once I had them right where I wanted them I gave them a good spray of Happy Hippo Orange Hairspray.
Boy, I tell ya, I smelled like every fruit in the book! I think that you could best describe it as the produce section of a grocery store JUST KIDDING ;o)
Needless to say, I am very happy with my new hair do. Lucky me, tonight I my mommy is coming in town and I'm getting my hair highlighted-phew, I need it real bad! And not only am I so fortunate to see my mom and get my done, but I ALSO get to see my FAVORITE KATIE IN THE WORLD: Miss Katie Lindborg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is going to be a good night.
